"Mr President, something is not quite right. How can it be possible? I hear from Mr Agnoletto that a minority of Kurds are here in serious difficulties and are claiming asylum in Belgium. Is it not true, however, that the Kurds, like the surviving Armenians – if there are still any of them left – are a Turkish minority? If they are being persecuted, how can the Union have begun Turkey’s accession process, in violation of the foundations of the Treaties? I call upon the Commission and the President to be vigilant and to suspend accession negotiations with Turkey."@en1
