As well as expressing regret at what has happened, Commissioner, in accordance with the current Treaties – I am not talking about the Constitution – the Commission and the Council, and not just the Member States, are obliged to defend the rights of European citizens in third countries, including in conflict situations. And that is part of the question, because there are two problems here: one of them is the defence of freedom of information and the other, the defence of the rights of the European citizens and their families in third countries.
