".
The European Parliament voted today on a proposal whereby small fishing vessels no longer used in the EU would be transferred to fishing communities hit by the tsunami. I fully agree about how important it is for the fishing industries of the countries hit to recover. On the other hand, I do not believe that transferring fishing boats, as put forward in the proposal for a regulation, is the right way to proceed. Transferring a number of fishing boats will not meet existing needs. In addition, support for the fishing industries of the countries hit should be adapted to local needs and local demand."@en1
