". I warmly welcome this proposal to outlaw sharp practices by rogue traders. Many of my constituents have suffered as a result of the kinds of behaviour this will hopefully bring to an end. For example, one of the practices targeted by the legislation is prize draw swindles, where consumers and encouraged – often via mobile phone text messaging – to ring a premium-rate number for a prize that does not exist. This new legislation will overhaul disparate national rules across the 25 nations of the EU and make it easier for consumers to take legal action against unduly aggressive or misleading selling methods. It will also introduce a ‘general duty’ to trade fairly."@en1
