".
The aim of the proposal for a directive on unfair commercial practices is to increase harmonisation of rules on unfair commercial practices that harm consumers’ financial interests. The directive is to help improve the functioning of the internal market and strengthen consumer protection. The proposal bans unfair commercial practices. We wholeheartedly support the completion of the internal market and effective consumer protection. The reason that we are unable to support the proposal for a directive in its current form is that it threatens to result in Sweden being unable in the long run to retain its ban on TV advertising aimed at children. We do not want to be instrumental in weakening the existing rules on advertising aimed at children and have therefore chosen to abstain in the final vote on the Bresso report in its entirety."@en1
