"Question No 2 by Kyriacos Triantaphyllides ()
The Israeli nuclear physicist, Mordechai Vanunu, was released by the Israeli authorities in April 2004 after eighteen years in prison, eleven and a half of which were spent in solitary confinement. Unfortunately, since the day he was released, Mr Vanunu has been held hostage by his country's government. He has been deprived of the right to travel and of freedom of speech. Recently, in November, he was re-arrested by the police on totally unfounded charges. Does the Council intend to make any recommendation to the government of Israel to restore the democratic rights of this person who has been persecuted to excess?"@en1
