Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, with regard to human rights, I would like to take the opportunity to mention a
. I am not referring to an actual person, but to peoples’ right to self-determination which, unfortunately, is very often hidden, ignored, trampled on and violated.
Too often, when we speak of human rights, we only refer to the rights of individuals, whose freedom, integrity and health must – quite rightly – be respected. The rights of peoples are, however, just as important, and one of the most important of these is the right to self-determination. This is why, as I found no trace of it in the report, I have tabled an amendment to rectify this omission, and hope that it will be received favourably by my fellow Members from all political parties."@en1
