That has been said many times in this House today, and I can only agree. It is also the case that pollution in the seas and in the marine environment is a genuine cross-border problem and a genuine cross-border challenge. As I see it, the decision we shall take tomorrow will lead to an improvement in the situation in the seas and in the marine environment. I also think that a European coastguard – an issue that must of course be looked into – could be a good contribution to this work. It could be helpful in combating oil pollution in its various forms. It would be important to define the coastguard’s tasks and roles so that it could also operate in relation to national responsibilities. I shall therefore be brief and simply conclude by supporting the proposed agreement."@en1
