"Mr President, the main item today is Palestine, but I want to turn our attention back to Iraq. Palestine is in the middle of a chain of extremely remarkable events, including elections in Afghanistan, Palestine and Iraq. Therefore, Sunday’s forthcoming challenge is not a single event, but part of a set of very significant changes that have been going on recently in the most wounded part of the Islamic world. We do not have to blame it, as some used to, or welcome the possible boycott, but welcome and expect the firm stance and good turnout at the polls by the Iraqi people.
I was impressed some time ago by reports from Afghanistan about millions of women going eagerly and resolutely with a feeling of human dignity to vote for the first time in their lives and in the history of their country. Now it may happen in Iraq and that is to be blessed by God, who is common to Christians and Muslims. Hopefully it will happen there, despite the efforts of non-divine forces. Whatever the case may be, one can be absolutely sure that under Saddam Hussein or after a victory for terrorists, it could never happen.
A good turnout on Sunday would be the most important vote, not for competing parties, but for a new life, as the vote of people released from the slavery of fear."@en1
