"Mr President, the fact that the Cambodian Government, or any other government for that matter, takes inadequate action against the trafficking and abuse of women and children is wholly unacceptable. Women’s and children’s rights should not be treated as second-class issues. It is the EU’s moral duty to deploy all the leverage at its disposal in order to change this situation. This sort of modern slavery must be banned, and this will need to be one of the priorities of the EU’s external policy. In addition, it is of the utmost importance for support to be given to those NGOs and people who are involved in the fight against the abuse of women and children. That is a task for both the EU and the Member States. As such, I would like to warmly thank those who have worked on this resolution."@en1
