lpv:translated text	"Mr President, the tenor of my speech will be rather different from that of the previous speaker’s. Let me start by thanking the Luxembourg Presidency, not only for the excellent agenda it has presented, but also for the style, content and level of commitment evident in it. In the coming months, the Luxembourg Presidency will certainly have its work cut out, and we have high hopes. There are great challenges that require an answer and that Europe has to meet. I should like to bring up one of those challenges, namely more and better jobs, but also sustainability and social cohesion. I will therefore repeat to Mr Goebbels and Mr Cohn-Bendit that the Socialists and the Greens do not have sole exhibition rights in this respect. Social cohesion is very much one of the Christian Democrats’ principles, and I will always continue to dedicate myself, as I know will our group, to ensure that social cohesion is maintained. That is why I am pleased that not only the President of the Council, but also the President of the Commission and the chairman of my group mentioned it. I should like to say a few words about Lisbon, and I want to make a number of points. First of all, while the objective of what we did in Lisbon was sound, and the result we would like to achieve is excellent, we forgot that, when all those Heads of Government went home, nobody assumed any responsibility or liability for this process. What matters more than anything else at the moment is, in addition to all the new measures that have to be taken, for people to be made accountable. It will then be possible to verify national plans at European level. I should like to finish off with a cry from the heart. I have noticed that we have made a few agreements about the free market that were subsequently flouted by the Member States and also by the European Commission, as regards qualifications, mobility, and so on."@en1
