"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, 13 December is a sad day, as it is the anniversary of the imposition of martial law in Poland, a measure that was intended to halt the widespread move towards democracy. I wanted to take this opportunity to say that this House has already heard on several occasions that Mr Kovács is becoming the hero of Europe’s transformation. Such statements have been made in particular by Mr Schulz. I enjoy listening to Mr Schulz’s speeches, but only for his use of German, not for their actual content. I should therefore like to repeat that it was not Mr Kovács who was the hero, but the Polish workers in Lublin, in Świdnik, and then in Gdansk in 1981. I would be extremely grateful if the authentic historical facts were respected. ( )"@en1
