"Question No 53 by Dimitrios Papadimoulis ()
The Commission's Food and Veterinary Office carries out regular inspections in the Member States to check whether slaughterhouses comply with Community hygiene rules.
Following its most recent inspections in Greece, can the Commission say to what extent Greek slaughterhouses or meat markets, such as Rendi in Athens, have met the requisite Community standards? Is the Commission satisfied with the progress made towards modernisation and does it consider that there are still shortcomings in food safety checks in Greece? What measures has the Commission taken, or will it take, to ensure that Greece complies with its obligations under the relevant Community legislation?"@en1
