"We believe that the European Union’s policy in the area of development needs to be reviewed. We are well disposed to humanitarian aid and to support for people in situations that make them vulnerable. We are nonetheless of the view that individual EU Member States should decide about the forms to be taken by their different commitments in terms of aid. The United Nations is the international organisation through which the Member States have the opportunity to coordinate their aid efforts. We are opposed to extending the EU’s competence to ever more areas and do not believe that aid is an issue for the EU. We have therefore chosen to vote against the proposed report."@en1
