But that does not necessarily go in your favour, Mr Barroso. We are not judging or voting here on the religious beliefs of anyone. We are judging your Commission's commitment to fighting for the basic values of the European Union and your Commissioners' ability to implement policies based on principles that they do not believe in and do not support. We are judging whether this Parliament has a decisive voice in Europe's political future, or whether we want it to be reduced to an advisory board within the Council. Finally, we are judging your own respect for Parliament and your independence from individual governments. It is time to be serious, that is true. It is time to show citizens our commitment to democracy and our commitment to them, and thereby to strengthen Europe. Whatever happens, this will not be an institutional crisis; it will be a development of democracy."@en1
