The Italian delegation of the Union for a Europe of the Nations Group has voted against Amendment No 4 on voting rights for immigrants to the Bourlanges report on the future of the area of freedom, security and justice because, while it is possible to consider the idea of granting immigrants the right to vote in local elections, the times are not yet ripe for contemplating the right to vote in European elections. We must point out, moreover, that recognition of the right to vote in local elections must provide for a detailed regulatory framework through an appropriate proposal that would clearly specify the procedures, times and the specific legal context."@en¹
