I am pleased to support this report and the IPP Communication, which seeks to support sustainable development by reducing resource use and the negative impact of waste disposal, and by reducing the environmental impact from products throughout their life-cycle. The Commission puts a lot of emphasis on 'working with the market'. Such an approach has clear merits, but will only be successful in an environment where 'green products' are priced favourably compared to other products. The application of the Polluter Pays Principle would be a key step in this direction. I hope that the Commission will respond to this report and take urgent steps to present a framework directive for IPP based on clearly defined principles and objectives and including the specific demands included in this report."@en1
