The Group of the European Liberal, Democrat and Reform Party is extremely pleased with the outcome of the vote. We have addressed some of the things that had been preventing the development of the banking sector, but at the same time we have retained very important aspects of consumer protection and developed that too. I think that we have created a Directive that will enable increased cross-border trade within Europe in the future. I know that some people would have liked to vote in favour of provisions on mortgage credit, but I hope and ask that the Commission presents a proposal on this point, which is extremely difficult to regulate.
