"Mr President, multilingualism is guaranteed, for better or for worse, in Europe’s legal system, by the founding treaties. In the same way that it applies to every citizen of the EU, it also protects the Members of this House in the way in which they carry out their functions. It follows that the Rules of Procedure of this House cannot alone be exempt from an obligation that is established in the Treaty. The Bureau must, therefore, in line with the provisions laid down by common agreement, comply strictly with the obligations that also bind it."@en1
