". – Mr President, with no discourtesy to the House, I said to the House earlier that work obligations prevented Mr Prodi from being here this morning. He is an avid attender at the important business of this House, as I am sure everyone here would recognise, and I consider it sufficient for the President of the Commission to be able to say legitimately and honestly that he has work preoccupations which, owing to timetabling, had to take precedence even over the proceedings of this House today. I hope the House will accept this explanation without my having to read out the President's diary."@en1
