". I believe that the European parties' statute, which provides for the financing of European political parties, is in breach of the subsidiarity principle. It is for the citizens of a Member State to decide whether or not they will choose to fund national political parties or independent representatives. The criteria for EU funding only of pan-European political parties exclude and therefore discriminate against smaller national parties and independents. It is also extremely worrying that the decision on whether or not a party will share in EU funding will be taken by an institution of the European Union. This hardly supports the fundamental principles of democracy and subsidiarity."@en1
