".
I voted against the resolution, believing as I do that this is the worst conceivable time for us to resume a debate on the Members' Statute.
At present, the European Union has essential and fundamental tasks to deal with. In the immediate aftermath of a failed summit, and facing all the problems of European integration, we in this House must limit ourselves to what is essential and necessary. The importance of a common statute means that a solution must be sought together with the Council and without pressure of time."@en1
