".
Mr President, I do not wish to reopen the debate; I simply wish to respond to Mrs McKenna, who claims that this report represents a victory for the arms industry lobbies. The offensiveness of this claim does not deserve a response, but the slur on my good name that it represents forces me to protest.
I have nothing, of course, against Mrs McKenna’s opinions, which are bound to differ from my own. What I cannot accept, however, is her insinuation that I have supposedly acted subserviently to the interests of this sector or even that I represent these interests. I am quite aware of what to do in the event of a conflict of interest. Apart from being offensive, this insinuation is false and completely inappropriate to the serious political context in which this debate has taken place. Mrs McKenna’s claim and the disgraceful lack of ethics that it reveals therefore reflect on the person who uttered it."@en1
