"I abstained from voting in the final vote. We European Christian Democrats in the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats voted against the proposal (now adopted by 191 votes in favour, 179 votes against and 39 abstentions) in paragraph 66, concerning ‘an international mandate in Palestine, including an international force on the ground’. This would have undone progress over quite a few decades. Paragraph 18 is unclear inasmuch as acts of terrorism committed by Palestinian suicide bombers are not kept separate from actions on the part of the Israeli army. Recital G describes the Middle East Quartet’s peace plan as ‘an unparalleled opportunity for the West to restore its credibility in the eyes of Arab and Islamic public opinion’. That is to miss the point. The peace plan has no aim other than to bring about peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians."@en1
