"Mr President, according to the agenda, we were due to have a debate on the situation in the Middle East and yet, apart from Mrs Kuntz’s speech, only Palestine has been discussed. As far as I am concerned, Palestine is not the Middle East. In French it is what we call the Near East. It seems that there is a Middle Eastern country that has completely disappeared from our radar screens; Iraq. I am not seeking to force a debate on Iraq, but personally I had prepared a speech on that country. I would simply like to ask a question which I feel is relevant to this House, which is so mindful of human rights: what exactly do we know today, in terms of international law, about the fate of the former head of the Iraqi diplomatic corps, Mr Tariq Aziz? This is an extremely relevant question, perhaps to be debated at our next meeting."@en1
