"The Council, which never makes statements on the basis of press stories, has not received any official information about the events referred to by the honourable Member in his question.
In particular, the Council has not discussed the situation of prisoners in Iraq, although the issue of human rights in Iraq continues to be of enormous concern. The Council is closely following all aspects of the situation, including, of course, the issue of human rights. The responsible authorities and specific obligations under applicable international law of the United States and the United Kingdom as occupying powers are the subject of Resolution 1483(2003) of the United Nations Security Council. This resolution also calls upon all concerned to comply fully with their obligations under international law, in particular the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1907 Hague Regulations."@en1
