". My position in this debate is clear. First of all, the current CAP is certainly not perfect. It is costly and at times unfair. Despite that, it is because of that CAP that agriculture still exists today in Europe. Secondly, the CAP undoubtedly has to be reformed in order to adapt to the current situation in Europe and worldwide. It needs to be better targeted towards the objectives of quality, the environment and maintaining rural employment. What is being proposed, however, which is cleverly disguised in the garments of justice and ecology (in the name of the famous ‘decoupling’) will inevitably lead to the disappearance of the CAP ten years from now and, in its wake, to the disappearance of real, diversified and self-sufficient European agriculture. This is why I cannot accept the proposals that have been put to us."@en1
