". The proposals before us are sensitive and emotive in more ways than one. I do not believe the Commission can, on the one hand, say we must open up access to the Irish Box and, on the other, preach conservation and protection of fish in other areas. I believe the Commission has lost control of the Common Fisheries Policy and is simply becoming the poodle of the Spanish Government and the industry in Spain. You cannot face both ways at the same time, no matter how hard you try. Many of us who have served loyally on the European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries for many years have found ourselves sidelined in the interests of expediency. I warn you clearly, this will not work, will not survive and will ultimately flounder."@en1
