"Question No 37 by Torben Lund (): In its opinion of 26 October 2000, Parliament called on the Commission to apply the cautionary principle in relation to endocrine disrupting chemicals. According to COM/2001/0262 final: 'The availability of agreed test strategies/methods to identify and assess endocrine disrupting chemicals is a basic requirement for comprehensive legislative action aimed at protecting people and the environment from the potential dangers posed by these chemicals.' The test methods are to be determined by the OECD's Endocrine Disrupters Testing and Assessment Task Force (EDTA) set up in 1998. At that point, the Commission expected that recognised methods for testing the effects on health would be available during 2002, while methods for testing the effects on the environment would be developed between 2003 and 2005. Against this background, will the Commission provide details of the results of the EDTA's work and will it confirm that endocrine disrupters will be covered by the legislation on chemicals on a par with other hazardous substances?"@en1
