"Madam President, having consulted yesterday’s verbatim report, I wish to protest strongly at an expression used yesterday by the leader of the Liberal Group, Mr Watson, at the beginning of the debate on Iraq. I wanted to make sure that these were exactly the words he used and he did indeed refer to the eight Heads of State and Government of the European Union, including my prime minister as a ‘gang of eight prime ministers’. This is not appropriate language to use in this House when talking about the prime ministers of Member States and I wish to protest strongly and urge my fellow Member from the Liberal Group who, for once, was not at his best, to apologise for the insulting language he used."@en1
