It was an oversight on my part in my first speech that I omitted to mention the fact that one of the Commission’s basic jobs is monitoring demographic developments and this is presented in the annual social report supported by the European Observatory on the Social Situation, Demography and Family, which funds important studies. This report, which maps the situation in Europe in the form of highly detailed statistics, refers to the indicators you mentioned on the number of births in each country, the number of births in each region and the ratio between immigrants and the population in each country. These are detailed, accurate statistics which map the situation in Europe from one year to the next."@en1
