"Mr President, you know that I am not one of these people who abuse the opportunity of raising a point of order. Furthermore, I did not want to disturb yesterday's ceremony, but I would like to bring to your attention, as President of this House, an incident that took place here on Monday evening, particularly in connection with countries still wishing to accede to the European Union. At about 8 p.m. a suspicious vehicle was found near the entrance. The police therefore cordoned off the entrance but the chaos they caused was such that even people who commonly use this word to describe the police's behaviour would feel it did not do justice to this situation. People trying to enter the Parliament building, including our staff, were bellowed at by the police in an extremely aggressive way. I then arrived at the scene myself and asked what was going on. At first I was further away – some people were allowed to stay, but others were not. When I was then referred to the head of the task force, I was not only told that these were regional police officers, but also, despite my demanding them several times, they refused to give their serial numbers or even their names. Maybe you will understand if I say that I was reminded at that moment of a forceful slogan shouted out a few years ago by a group chairman in this House – 'CRS equals SS!' I have to say that I found this action by the CRS, the French riot squad, unfitting in a democracy and I believe that it was detrimental to this House. I therefore ask you to take appropriate follow-up action."@en1
