"Mr President, I wish simply to express my agreement with the ideas put forward by Mrs Maes and say that, this morning, the Chechen President, Aslan Maskhadov condemned this action and that the political problem is a major one. The lives of the Russian hostages being held in the Moscow theatre absolutely must be saved and everything must be done to help to find a solution.
Thought must also be given to the political problem of Chechnya. I believe that a delegation from our Parliament will be visiting Russia at the end of November. What has just happened shows that this problem, which has occupied us for so long, is far from being resolved. Unfortunately, however, the Chechen crisis is currently forgotten, especially by Europe."@en1
