"Question No 50 by Joachim Wuermeling ():
Last year the European Parliament and the Council adopted Directive 2001/37/EC, which contains an export ban on strong cigarettes. However, the ban was postponed until 1 January 2007 to allow a world-wide agreement on maximum nicotine and condensate levels to be adopted in the intervening period.
What progress has been made in the WHO negotiations on this issue? Is it anticipated that harmonised standards will be agreed by 2007? Does the Commission intend to propose giving up the export ban if efforts to reach a global agreement fail?"@en1
