". This report will delight the bleeding-heart intelligentsia who ostentatiously show off their pro-European stance. Apart from that, however, I cannot see the interest of such a text. I would even go so far as to say that this report worries me. First of all, it concerns an area of competence reserved for the Member States alone. It is therefore unacceptable for Parliament to call on the Member States to make their cultural policies coherent at European level. That has nothing to do with this House. Second, I am convinced that this report constitutes the reward given by federalist Europe to the political and cultural establishment, which does not spare any effort in ‘advancing’ the pro-European cause. This report, which grants subsidised ‘artists’ an incredible number of privileges and grants, is intended to benefit solely the heavily-subsidised cosmopolitan elite, by way of thanks for services rendered to the ‘European ideal’. Lastly, this report actually reflects a perverse and dangerous course of action which consists of using the theatre and the performing arts as a means to promote pro-European ideology. Rather than just promoting art, some aspects of this report tend more towards mixing culture and propaganda. I am concerned to preserve the creative freedom of true artists and I shall therefore vote against this report."@en1
