"Mr President-in-Office, that we are concerned about the impasse in cross-community talks goes without saying. You said in your first reply that the interested parties will need to step up their efforts. However, as everyone knows, the key to resolving the Cyprus problem is to be found in Ankara, not in Cyprus itself.
I should like to ask if the Council intends to put pressure on the Turkish government to take the steps needed in order to help resolve the Cyprus problem. Otherwise, I fear that, as things stand, we may well end up partitioning the island, with the Turkish side, with Turkey behind it of course, as always, insisting on recognition of the independent sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots."@en1
