"Madam President, I supported this report with these qualifications: National allocations of the rural development fund are not equitable and should be changed during the mid-term review. The regulations should be more flexible and less bureaucratic. Measures to promote food safety, food quality and support for local products, while welcome, must not be allowed to distort competition. There is a wider rural world than farming and tourism. There are two districts in my region which have low unemployment, but low average incomes. Our ambition for rural areas must be higher economic activity and higher incomes."@en1
