".
I fully support moves to increase worker protection against the health risks of exposure to asbestos. Since the numbers of people affected by asbestos are predicted to rise considerably by 2020, legislation must be upgraded to
acceptable levels of exposure. In order for the EU to show itself to be serious about non-implementation of this legislation, the use of sanctions against irresponsible employers is vital. I also welcome the move to provide EU funding for training and information about the health risks associated with asbestos. Essentially, this report should lead to a more sensible preventative – rather than curative – approach to asbestos poisoning and it could potentially result in much lower figures of workers affected."@en1
