". I am in favour of procedures to enable the sanctions list set up by the UN Sanctions Committee to be revised where justified as set out in Amendment No 2. The list is extensive and we are taking it on trust. I would like to have had more certainty about the proposed role of the Court of Justice taking into account the role of the courts of the Member States. I am not sure about the implications of Amendment No 9, which covers the Commission’s proposals on the transmission of information received by the Commission to the competent authorities of the Member States. The further transfer of this information to Parliament and its “competent committee” and “in accordance with relevant procedures” is vague. I strongly support the proposed amendments to the Commission’s text on respecting human rights and humanitarian need. I did not participate in the vote as I consider this to be a serious issue. Anything to do with tackling terrorism is important. Blocking off the supply of funds to terrorist organisations and their associates is one of the most important means at our disposal in dealing with the Al-Qaida networks. I would like to have had more time to examine this aspect of the proposal and, if necessary, to have had time to strengthen these measures even further."@en1
