lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, the British Labour Members did not support this report. We do not support the extension of the marketing scheme for nuts. We recognise, however, that production is commonly found in less-favoured areas, principally in Spain, and that much of the production is barely competitive and brings little economic return. For these reasons it would make more economic sense to support the affected regions by a comprehensive programme for alternative crops or other activities that could be financed through the Rural Development Programme. Our vote accordingly urges the Commission to bring forward proposals to this effect. We realise that these views are not universally popular but believe that they should ultimately result in a higher standard of living for the people affected. This is preferable to continued subsistence living and uncertain financial provision from CAP funds."@en1
