A few days ago the Spanish citizen and Catholic priest José Mantero made a public declaration of his homosexuality, which was widely covered in the media. At the time of writing, 5 February 2002, the same media are reporting that the Catholic Church may take disciplinary action against him.
Does the Council not take the view that Mr Mantero's private and professional situation is protected under the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, Article 21 of which guarantees non-discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation?
