"I shall now read out the results of the vote that has just taken place. Voters: 586. Blank or spoilt ballot papers: 18. Votes cast: 568. Absolute majority: 285. The results are as follows:
Mr Bonde: 33 votes
Mr Cox: 298 votes
Mr David Martin: 237 votes.
As you will all have realised, Mr Patrick Cox has obtained an absolute majority of votes cast. I offer you my sincere congratulations, Mr Cox, on your election and my best wishes for the performance of your duties, for a term of office which is fruitful and beneficial to the European Parliament.
