"How wonderful it would be, Madam President, if we could find a solution to prevent conflicts! I voted for this document, Madam President, but I am convinced that we will be able to avoid these conflicts – 99% of which just happen to involve poor, or rather very poor, countries in the world – if we can make these countries a little less poor. I therefore think it is appropriate that the European Union should continue its actions of supporting the economies of Third World countries and poor countries, because I am convinced that only by improving the living standards of the citizens of our world who live in poverty – or rather in extreme poverty, not just in poverty, but in the most wretched poverty there could be – will we succeed in preventing conflicts of any kind."@en1
