"Madam President, I would like to briefly draw attention to the case of one of our colleagues in Israel, Mr Bichara, whose parliamentary immunity has recently been waived by the Knesset, a step that was taken because Mr Bichara expressed his political views in public. I think that this step goes completely against the concept of parliamentary immunity, as this is never used by a country to punish MPs for expressing political views. I believe that Mr Bichara has an extremely important role to play in relations between the Israeli and Palestinian people and in bringing about a fair solution to this conflict. I also think that it is important that you bring up this matter with the Israeli authorities and express Parliament’s concern at this step which infringes freedoms and breaches the treaty signed by Israel and the European Union."@en1
