Between the first half of 2000 and the first half of 2001, rail freight between Italy and France fell by 8% and combined transport by 10%. In face of such lack of foresight, I can only support the request from the Savoy League for an independent international agency – which could be the Commission – to draw up a report on the Alpine passes between France and Italy and for, in the meantime, the Alpine tunnels to be reserved for tourist traffic and regional and inter-valley traffic, with strict limits on size and tonnage."@en1
