"Mr President, I voted for the report on aid to Turkey, but I want to say that the Pensioners’ Party and I personally ask the European Union to be braver. The 12 countries that have applied to join the European Union should all be admitted in 2004 without any further conditions, because this would be a courageous political act: they have been waiting for fifty years to feel really European. Did the six countries that signed the Treaty of Rome, Mr President, have to include the Community
in their own statute books before signing? There was no Community directive, but even so a great Europe was formed through an important political act. I tell you: we can let in all 12 countries in 2004, whatever their legislative situation may be."@en1
