All nine candidates are well qualified to become excellent members of the Court of Auditors. We would nonetheless remind the Member States that, in appointing candidates, they must take Article 247, Paragraph 2 of the Treaty seriously: ‘The Members of the Court of Auditors shall be chosen from among persons who belong or have belonged in their respective countries to external audit bodies or who are especially qualified for this office.’ The Court of Auditors plays a very important role in relation to supervising the Community’s funds. It is therefore very important that there should be enduring respect for its Members."@en1
