"The report by Mrs Martínez-Orozco is, Mr President – and I am sure you will agree with me – extremely important. Measures must be taken so that women – not only women, but in this case women – have no fewer rights in society than men have. In some places they have many more rights – in my home, for instance, women have more rights than men – but in the rest of the world, unfortunately, as in this case, women really have to face torture. I therefore ask the European Union not to give a penny more in development aid to those countries that still practice female circumcision and to really implement a policy supporting respect for human rights in those states to which we do give our money."@en1
