lpv:translated text	"In today’s vote, I gave my support to a crucial strengthening of the European Ombudsman’s position. The proposal is aimed at amending Article 3 of the Ombudsman’s statute so that the Ombudsman also has access to classified documents within the EU. It is also proposed that all officials of the EU should be instructed to give full evidence in accordance with the truth and that their duty of loyalty towards their employer should cease. Officials are thus obliged to defend the truth and their fellow citizens rather than to protect their own institutions. This is a crucial improvement in terms of transparency and democratic control in the EU."@en¹
