"I choose to vote against the position adopted by my political group when it comes to the rules about sending out unsolicited advertisements to consumers via e-mail. E-mail advertisements are, in general, an inconvenience for the consumer since it takes time, for example, to open and delete them. They also contribute to the spread of viruses on the Internet. What is more, it is the consumer who has to bear the costs of receiving and reading the advertisements. In the light of this, I consider that only an opt-in solution can effectively protect consumers from unsolicited advertisements. My position on this issue has influenced my vote in the final vote on this report."@en1
